PocketGear etc

Handango gives me far more sales than PocketGear but I get most from ShareIt! I have not watched the ratios myself but I would have expected the ratio to be similar ?

That doesn't make sense statistically? Even though one outlet may have more people, the distribution or ratio of sales should be relatively close. Perhaps people who buy or try-only are attracted to one place, and not a another. Its difficult to know if one should be suspicious. Can you provide some hard numbers, Pacomac or anyone else?

Suspicions

Postby Conan » Aug 2, 2002 @ 10:31am

I do not expect that PocketGear are in any way taking sales which they are not passing on. It would not be very long before you got a support e-mail from someone claiming to be a registered user & then the game would be up.

Interestingly though I have had almost all my reversed sales with PocketGear ( sale happens & then you get an e-mail saying it was cancelled by the purchaser )

When I give up full time work to just write games there's always a chance that I will start an online store as well as I believe that the % being taken and the almost forced advertising some sites work is not friendly to developers. The original idea was just to cut my own admin costs but then I though that with a bit more effort I could assist others. The down side is having to deal with the 'paperwork'

I suspect a good number of people who go to PocketGear and download a demo end up buying off Handango. I've done that several times. It's easier to find things on PocketGear but I've got a Handango account and didn't feel like creating a PocketGear one.

Pocketgear Sales

Strangely enough there are more downloads on PocketGear yet as I said I have sold 3 times as many titles on Handango!! PocketGear seem to do well when you can get the banner adds going, but they seem to be very picky as to what they display.

There is a new site for anyone that is unaware called 'Infinifiles' at www.infinifiles.com. I haven't sold much there yet but it's early days for them... the more the better I say.

chargeback charges

Postby Conan » Aug 5, 2002 @ 6:03pm

No costs for chargebacks passed on to me but it's very annoying to supply registration details only to have the sale reversed. The main problem is online sites allowing 'hotmail' type addresses.

Re: Infinifiles does anyone know if they have automatic registration code handing ?
