My 3950

My 3950

Postby goodbye » Aug 3, 2002 @ 2:42am

Just 2 days ago I got an amazing deal on a 3950, and now have one. I attempted to do the new ROM update on my 3850, and it resulted in the device becoming totally useless, it would not even boot up. So I took it back to BestBuy under the 3 year protection plan. I expected to just get another 3850. But I loved the 3950 screen but knew I could never get one cause I owed $3000 to my parents for a laptop I just bought. But instead of giving me a replacment 3850 they offered my a 3950 if I just paid the $80 price difference. So of course I accepted :D

So here are my initial impressions of the device. The screen is WONDERFULL!!! I could never, ever go back to a reflective screen. I would never have given up my E-125 for the 3850 if it had not broke cause I hated reflective screens. But with the 3950 it is just like having the E-125 screen back when indoors. The outdoor visibility is just as good as the 3850. The contrast problem is totally fixed, the screen is just all around amazing.

As for the X-Scale speed, it seems to run most things about the same speed as the 3850 did. And some games, such as Snood run very slow on it. The X-Scale was a dissapointment, but the wonderfull screen makes up for it.

The battery life seems to be better then the 3850 but I haven't actually tested it yet, thats just in observation from daily use.

I always wanted a PPC with the screen my of E-125 but the speed and outdoor viewing of the iPAQ. Now I finally have it. I'm so happy with it, I hated my 3850 compared to my E-125 but I love the 3950 compared to both of them :D

Any questions of things you want tested on the device I'd be happy to try out on it for you.

I wouldn't get either of those 2. Check out the loox (it comes out very soon). It was rated rather high, and has an amazing blue tooth range (from what I have read).

[edit]but, if I had to choose, I would prob go with the Ipaq.

Aye, I have an iPAQ 3765, and besides the infamous button problem, the battery life was just plain ugly with the backlight set to minimum the whole time. But not anymore:
If all you PPC'ers out there want to increase your battery life, visit It has the plans to make a battery extender for the iPAQ, Casio, and even Jornada devices for only $10 or less (assuming you already have MiMH batteries) I carry mine everywhere, and when my iPAQ whines about needing a charge, I just plug it in. I get about 2 full charges with the backlight set to minimum when charging. With the backlight off, you get about 4 1/2. If you use NiMH batteries, you wont need the diode. But remember, once all is said and done, DO NOT put NiCD or Alkaline batteries in it, otherwise, youll blow the thing to hell. I used a labeler to put the warning on it. I assure you, it works great and is well worth the money.
Cheers,
