Let me clarify my definitions then.
By the way, if you fired a rocket in Quake1, the hallway would light up.. that seems to make it a lightmap to you, when it is clearly not. GLQuake has a command to modify this behavior; gl_flashbend 0 or 1
Vertex lighting is a light with a defined radius from a certain point. Looks like Quake2 to me, circular lights from the rockets. It would be a dynamic light, but it WON'T be a lightmap. I'm willing to look into the source and look for just that, a defined point at which the light lights from.
Lightmaps are exactly that, defining levels of light that aren't neccecarily restricted to radius.
I've talked with 2 other people whom have played Quake for years, and both agree with me, so I don't think I'm mistaken here.
I know for a fact Quake3's world lighting is a lightmap.
