The retake cost SOMEBODY something, even if it wasn't you. And it cost you another semester of that same class. So instead of getting through the boredom the first time, you had to sit through it twice.
There have been about 2 classes that I would call useful that i have ever taken in my life. Every class I've taken has been excessively boring and simple minded. Guess what. I've never gotten below a B in my life. I took 8 classes last semester, 18 hours worth of classes, and I got a 3.8GPA for that semester. My quality of life wasn't exactly the greatest. But somehow I managed to bite the bit and do well in all of my 8 classes, none of which I enjoyed. It's not like I don't have lots of reasons to not do well in school, but that's an ignorant and circular excuse.
Just because it's boring doesn't mean you shouldn't do well in it. That's a cop out. You're an idiot because you complain about how boring the class was, but then force yourself to take it AGAIN the next semester.
That's not a path through life, that's falling asleep while the turtle crosses the finish line. And this is fairly, extremely different from a career you're unhappy with. I understand and applaud your choice, jont, because that was a lifetime decision. Happiness is much more important than money. But refractor chose two-fold boredom and a failing grade for what restitution? There are no redeeming factors for refractors choice to "fail" that class, and there are no excuses. You failed the class, there is no "because" or "but" after that. You're taking the same boring class again, and there IS a "because" after that. Because you failed it before.
