Diego, Some brushes and textures aren't designed to be "outside" brushes. Meaning the brush that is the outside wall leading to the great void needs to be solid and non-transparent or masked. Also the outside brushes can't be an entity, they must remain a world brush. Otherwise they will [normally] generate a compile error.

Keep in mind this is YOUR map, Diego, and just because you are using the original map as a reference doesn't mean you must copy it exactly. The original was designed for a SinglePlayer game, not Deathmatch, so the flow is different.

Besides, adding your own little nuances will truly make this "your map".

DM MUSEUM wasn't my first effort at that map. Originally it was designed as a HUGE level for Sin (there is a short story about it on my site). In order to get it to run on PocketQuake I had to take alot of liberties. It looks nothing like the original, but the theme remains.

My point is, if I had remained true-to-form, the map would be absolutely unplayable.

I will look for it in the new alpha. (I sent it to you Paul, so if you want to help me...) :)
By the way, the original map was for DM, not for single player.

I like having interactive stuff in DM maps, like having a button that controls bars, that move across those water areas, trapping anyone inside - or better yet, the old 'retractable bridge over lava' thing

I like that kind of stuff too. But I decided to port this map becouse it was one of the most amazing ones I ever played in a videogame. I still play it even after ~4 years. It was so good that it even appeared in 2 different games! This is the kind of map that runs well in PQ becouse it doesn´t have staircases (only ramps), too complexy textures and moving parts and doors. But still love this map. I will build a new map whit this kind of stuff when I finish PQomplex...

Diego CuevaLast modification: Diego Cueva - 04/21/01 at 03:53:22

Maybe you people can help me. A long time ago I played a Quake map with a gun that the player could jump on to and control with a button.

Anyone else played a map like this?

Oh yeah, was it randall who said he'd make tutorials for us? Its not that I dont understand this stuff, I'm just a bit rusty on a few things and it looks so damn intimidating seeing huge (and impressive) maps like that - I just cant be bothered. Maybe now I'll have the motivation to make one!
Last modification: Paul - 04/21/01 at 03:58:59

For a First person game, yes.
I´m glad I gave you hope to do something to help the world to be a better place.

I first built a simple map called "ruins" to know how the WC controls work. Only then I started PQomplex.... Which is a hard map to port. it has undergroud parts, ramps and other hard stuff too make...Last modification: Diego Cueva - 04/21/01 at 04:15:50

Well, I'm not sure if this will better the world but I'll have a crack at it :)

Maybe we should get a map thread going, to post questions, requests and announcements, although this thread is already getting like that...
