When I lived in New York City (Manhattan) merely OWNING a car said alot about your status. I owned a car while living there, and had to "rent" a parking spot for around $450 a month. That was simply for parking by our townhouse. If you drove anywhere and could find parking, it was around $10 to $25 an hour average, plus the Valet tip.

Needless to say, most New Yorkers take a taxi-cab or the subway.

Moose, get a BMW M3 Coupe as fast as you can, because if you don't want a car that everyone has, get an M3, there's only a very limited amount being sold in the US. I like the yellow the best. When I move to Euro, I gotta get an M3 (M5 if I can afford it) to go on the Autobahn.

I'll look into it Warren. I've got a CD worth a lot coming due in August, so this may be perfect timing if I can find one cheap enough and unused enough for my tastes.

WOH.. that's a no. Aside from only getting 16 mpg, using premium unleaded, and costing a lot, ... I don't like the gear ratio's ;D (but the weight distribution is nice)

What? I thought you could afford a Ferrari, and you're saying you can't afford $45,000? Come on, 333hp, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. That's hilariously fast, and nice for such a great handling car.

I could afford a 1976 Ferrari with 250,000 miles on it! The lowest that thing goes is 25,!

OH! I thought when you said that could could afford a Ferrari, that that meant a NEW one! Well of course, I can afford a brand new Porsche, if it's been in a crash and flood and fire damage! Well, I am going to recommend another sports car, which is not BMW, not VW, and not even German. It's British. The 2001 Lotus Elise. It's only 122hp, but somehow with only 122hp, 0-60 is only 5.8 seconds!! AND, it's only $30,000 USD!!!!! I would get one of these (they look like they'd cost a million dollars), but the only thing bad with them is reliability. Lotus is not too good on that, but hey! look at this thing! 999, I see what you're saying about the "status" of owning what car, but here in Massachusetts, everyone just gets junk Hondas or Toyotas (except in Boston, where EVERYONE has a VW Jetta), so owning ANYTHING above a Japanese car is status. If there were 2 people with BMW 3-series here, one had the 325i and the other had the 330i, the 325i guy wouldn't be considered of a lower class compared to the 330i guy, because it makes no difference, whereas in LA, where everyone has these types of cars, I can see where status differences can appear. Ha, it's like the caste system! Only with cars! But here, there's pretty much 2 classes, the lower people have normal everyday Japanese and American cars, and the higher class have German, British, and Swedish cars. The difference between a VW Corrado and a BMW 325ti Compact here makes no difference, I want the BMW over the Corrado mainly because I don't want a used car (in the North East, car corrosion is MUCH worse than in CA) and because of safety (8 airbags!) and it has a GPS system! (I'm real bad at directions) I will admit that the Corrado is slighty faster than the BMW, but in a drag race, the winner will be whoever sups theirs up more, because they're both around 200hp. But don't worry 999, if BMW decides not to sell the Compact in the US, I'll probably get a 2002 MINI COOPER S! Oh yeah! 160hp, super safe, and still has GPS :-) And is $2,000 - $4,000 less than the BMW. ImageLast modification: Warren - 06/29/01 at 10:23:30

The mini is awesome. My Dad is getting one the day it's released, no questions asked.

I'll take the blonde next to it however ;)

You're right about car corrosion. My friend sells vintage VWs in Japan, and he will only buy the vdubs if the have spent their entire life in SoCal. Can you imagine getting roughly 20k+ for a 1970's VW Ghia? I'm in the wrong biz...

I really do like the Corrado, despite how old, or lack luster it is in features by today's standards. However amongst fellow Vdubbers, I'm given quite some respect, as everyone in a fixed up VW can't help but give me the ol' rubbernecked stare as a roll by. I like that, when someone else is able to appreciate you car like it was your pet.

Oh, final note- Warren, I saw a yellow corrado the other day, I dont know if it was a G60, but it had the left passenger side of the front hood all modified. It had like a perfect rectangle shape with slats that forced air directly into the air filter. I've never seen this before, at least this type of mod, as it wasn't a bulghing "scoop". How much of a performance increase you think this guys getting? You got figure it will cost about a grand or so to have done? I'm interested, because it really didn't detract from the body shape, and wasn't blaring out at you either.
"I'll take the blonde next to it however" I KNEW you were going to say that!! That's why I picked that picture! Well, I never see ANY Corrados here, except at VW shows. I may see one on the road, like once or twice a month, MUCH rarer than a Porsche Boxster, that's because people are too conservative here. That's why I really doubt the MINI will sell good in the US, because Americans don't like small Euro cars, just like how Shapeshifter mocks the BMW C1. Oh, about that air intake, I've seen that a million times, there's a trick to it. You buy a fake air intake, make a big hole in the hood where the intake's gonna be, attach a flat (flat rectangular) metal pipe to it, and run it to the air filter. Quite cheap. If you don't want to do that, just buy a fake one and glue it to the hood, they look real (until you open the hood), and are real nice. If I get a MINI COOPER (as you probably know, the new Mini Cooper is spelled all caps, whereas the old one is not, it makes it easier), I'd HAVE to get adjustable shocks to lower it to probably 1" ground clearance, but because we have big pot holes and stuff, I'd have to get an electric one that you can adjust from inside the car (I've seen it a million times at VW shows, and Peugeot in Europe makes those too, although I doubt they'll fit in the MINI, they're only made for Peugeots). The MINI would look SO cool super lowered. What model is your dad getting? The MINI One, normal MINI, or MINI S? I need the MINI S, because it comes with all the options I want standard for cheaper (like the GPS with LCD screen, LIKE A PPC!), and comes with 160hp, AND has an air intake on the hood! AND racing bucket seats! AND white racing strips just like the old Mini! I like the blue one (Cloud 9 color). And remember, MINI is owned and ran by BMW, so if you hate BMW, that means you hate MINI!!! AHH! That means you have to take back what you said about BMW :-D Plus the interior of the MINI is awesome. The wheel wells on the MINI are quite big, so maybe 19" wheels will fit in there, that would be too good. I'd like the get those wheels I recommended to you, I can't remember the name, I can easily look it up, they're white (I'd HAVE to get white wheels for the MINI) 5-spoke racing wheels, but only come in 18", which is still huge enough (in 19", or even in 18", if you go over a pot hole too fast, you can dent the wheel :-/ ) OMG! I just got a great idea, put colored tape (same color as car) over part of the headlight to make it look real mean. I've seen this a trillion times at VW shows, but it'll look SOO much better on a super lowered with super big wheels MINI. Man, now I can't decide between the BMW 325ti Compact, or the MINI COOPER S! Well, I'd rather have the BMW, because it's bigger, and more useful in the real world, but the MINI is so much funner, but the BMW is faster with more ESP type of systems, but the MINI has a big wheel base so handling is the same as the BMW, but the BMW! but the MINI!! AHH!!! I can't decide!!!! AHH! Well, if BMW isn't going to sell the Compact in the US, then the decision is easy. :-) Hey 999, I'm going to LA in August! Maybe I'll see yer Corrado!

Silver? Come on. That's too conservative. Have you seen the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sports Coupé? It's coming to the US this summer. It comes in this awesome green color. This car is on my list, but with a price tag of around $30,000, probably not. It has a targa top (a roof of all glass, huge sunroof), it has EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING! It has all the traction control programs that the S-Class has, and it looks awesome! Here's some pictures - Image Image Image Image Image Image It has 197hp, and well, too much more stuff, and I really gotta go now, so go to for more info, and go to too. Hell, this thing has everything from GPS LCD screen to voice activated radio! Last modification: Warren - 06/29/01 at 20:23:04

DANGIT!!!!

Why the FVCK doesn't VW release another Corrado?

Now that the body style is "in" there's no Corrado for these BMWs and Benzs to go toe to toe with.

Y'know as biased as I am, I still prefer the hard lines of the Corrado over these two new stylistically similar cars. Out of the two however, I like the BMW, it looks more aggresive all around, that benz looks puss from behind.
