Is a good one, but it's becoming dated now with the release of new PPC's and PPC2k2.

I love Andre LaMothe, he's got to be my favorite video game programming author. He worked at NASA as an engineer forever and then about 10 years ago started programming in his spare time. He's published over 10 books, from DOS game programming to PPC, DirectX8, massively multiplayer, and many other game programming techniques. He's really superb. I'd recommend this book as well, but I wasn't sure if you were looking for a game type programming book, however this does cover more than just the basics of WindowsCE programming before it goes into GAPI, so it gives you a great background.

The fun thing is that I own that last book and here it says the author is Jonathan S. Harbour.

Andre Lamothe is the editor, not the author.

I have a bunch of the Andre Lamothe EDITED books (I don't think he did much editing though, judging by the code samples, inaccurate data, and sometimes outright wrong information) in the Primatech series and I can honestly say the PocketPC one is TOTAL CRAP! First off, the guy RECOMMENDS using the GDI. Uh, no. Then there's the completely useless primer on windows programming, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

The Primatech series suffers from the classic "to much in to little pages" so hardly any of them adiquately cover their featured topic to warrant paying $10 let alone $40. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until I'd baught a bunch of 'em at once off Amazon and then started reading some a couple months later :(

This isn't just my opinion btw. Game Developer Magazine has had book reviews on some of the books in the series and none have had good reviews. Perhaps if you're a complete novice and just want to make something then ya, I could suggest this series and the PocketPC book, but if you know anything about Win32 or plan to actually release a commercial product stray far far away from this series.

Oh, I forgot to mention there's a new book coming out called "PocketPC Game programming using GAPI" or something like that by another publisher that you may want to look into. According to the TOC it has actually USEFULL content such as fixed point arithmetic, basic 2D routines, etc, and supposedly doesn't rely on the GDI to cover the author's inability to produce blitters that are actually fast.

But hey, I'm bitter at spending $40 on a completely useless book so don't take my word for it.
