Car Modding

Postby Mr Visitor » Apr 25, 2002 @ 9:53am

All Righty then..

2000 Norfolk Mustard Lotus Elise
Janspeed SS Sports Exhaust
Orgin Blue i GPS Speed Trap locator
Lots of aluminium interior part (Window winders, door latches etc.)

Comming soon:
Hurricane Induction Kit
Cat Replacement pipe
Yokohama Advan Tyres (Designed for Lotus)

Also tempted by Manesium racing wheels

P.S. I rekon that Exhaust/air filter changes on their are only likely to give 5% bhp increase 10% absolute tops. They can however alter the characteristics of the engine (freer revving etc)

Mr Visitor - Im off to santapod with my r5 this sunday mate :( heard about castle combe being open, but i want to see if i can beat my pb 1/4 miles time, hopeing to just sneak in under 13.5secs this time :)

NY - Have you done any engine mods?

Moose - GPS sounds like a waste of money to me, looks cool sure, but not really necessary, save the money and spend it on making your car faster instead :) Just a k&n and s/s exhaust will make it sound sweet! :D

Nitrous is OTT in my opinion, certainly not legal for road use in the uk anyhow ;)

I don't REALLY care how fast my car goes. It's VERY quick as is. Acceleration is top notch and the suspension is so tight right now I can take any butterfly off ramp at 70 and not even feel it. RSXs are so stable you won't believe it until you drive one. And the manual really makes it fun and adds to it's stability, cornering power, enjoyment, everything.
I'm more interested in technology for my car, seamless enhancements. I would kill myself before I bought a spoiler for my car. Why do you think they call them spoilers anyway? But I might check out a nice sound system for my car. Not so I can thump down the road, just quality wise, not competition subs or anything like that.
I want my GPS Nav, though. It's not just a "cool factor" for me. I'm going to be driving the interstate every weekend next year to a city I don't know. I could use it right now to find places, too. And of course it is cool :).

My brother has this totally decked out Acura 3.2TL, 2000, Black with black leather interior. Limo tinting, phat ass chrome wheels (I forget the measurement), Z rated tires, two subs in bass boxes, xenon headlights. He even changed the lights inside his car to blue. Nothing on it is stock anymore. And do you know what he told me when he saw my car? "Before you mod your car, change the wheels, anything, ask me. I'll let you drive my car so you can see how bad it is and what a waste of money that junk is." I don't want mods like that for my car. I want the cool GPS units, seamless radar detection, laser cruise-control, night vision in the window, stuff like that. My car is going to stay classy, not pimpy.

Oh, and silver wheels look so much nicer than those shiny chrome wheels. I don't know why anyone buys chrome anymore.

I saw this lamer in an '87 toyota sedan, no paint, it was down to the metal. He had this bright white ground effects kit installed on both the front and rear bumper. It was so hilarious. Why would he even bother. now THAT was a clown car!

My dream performance car (besides a Buggati Veyron 16/4, of course) is the '93 Lister Storm. Those things look so sweet and are so powerful. The body is made of kevlar, too! Damn that car is nice.
Here's the list of cars I'm going to buy in order:
1. Acura RSX (current)
2. Mercedes SLK 32 AMG
3. BMW M3
4. Ferrari 550 Maranello
5. Aston Martin Vanquish

Each of those is about 7-10 years apart. That estimate is based on me becoming a doctor. Hopefully this list is as realistic as I think it is. I don't see any problem with the SLK, I can get one really cheap used. The BMW M3 I won't get anything but new so that might take some extra time, but it's my "family man" car. You know, with the four seats. The Ferrari 550 is my mid-life crisis car, and the Vanquish is my "I'm an old man and I'll buy what I want before this life leaves me," sort of thing.

yes GTT, i love em they are great fun, not an elise of course, but still good for the £££'s and very tunable.... i agree they dont really have that 'hewn from stone' feel to the build hehe, but all french cars are rattley, i used to have a citroen axgt and that was the same. As for the engine, ive done 35k miles without a problem running at a steady 16psi (just over 1bar) of boost, which means i get ~160bhp, you just have to make sure you a) buy one that hasnt been miss-treadted in the past (else your in for a rough ride culminating in full engine re-build and new turbo :() and b) you look after it properly, i try to do a full mini-service every 6-8000 miles (oil change, oil filter etc) and keep an eye on the turbo for signs of play in the shaft... im saving up for a hybrid turbo which should help considerably on both the power and the reliability from, its all about spending money on cooling as well as upping the power....too much boost not enough cooling and POP, the head gasket goes, this is why they have a bad rep cos if you dont look after them they do go bang. Most r5gtt drivers are 18 and just whack the boost up without a care :( poor cars
Also good to leave it idling for a bit after being on boost before turning the engine off else the coolant (which is the same as the engines) stops going to the turbo and the heat can cause the turbo housing to crack....its like any other car tho, if you look after it properly its fine :)

Still rather have your lotus tho! :D
Go to turbotechnics if you have the cash and get them to do a supercharger conversion (they specially developed it for the elise), brings the 0-60 down by a full second, and with the stage 2 kit brings the power to weight upto over 200BHP/Tonne 8O

Sorry to go on, i like cars :D

But when you buy an SLK, you get given a free comb and Hair Scisors

(Not suggesting it's a Hairdessers car, oh-no) ;)

Check out . Take a look at their "Joyride" system. GPS receiver with built in gyroscope for when the GPS satelite is unavailable. Now that is exactly the system I'm looking for. It will even let you plug in some RGB and NTSC sources. It will play MP3s straight off of any CD you feed it. DVD movies. Everything. *drools*
