E-retailers, versus Nintendo

E-retailers, versus Nintendo

Postby Dave » May 23, 2002 @ 2:29pm

I was just reading old thread about Handango and PocketGear ripping off developers for 20-30%, and how it's an outrage, however two things jumped to mind:

1) You are clearly paying for the web-site - Handango is a lot more well-known than the typical web-site (although obviously that's not true with pocketmatrix which is just as well-known!)

2) Are you guys aware of the situation developing for Nintendo's Gameboy Advance? I was quoted $1.20 per sale. That's $1.20 on a cartridge worth about $50 I think? I feel like I've died and gone to heaven - I can't code fast enough, last month I was getting 2% of sale price, now I have a potiential 70-80%!!

You guys don't know what you've got believe me - enjoy it while it lasts because it can't last forever!!

That's what I do with DEXplor. I don't send anyone to Pocket Gear at all, so I am only charged 5% processing using PayPal through my website. I will have eSellerate up as an additional purchase option in a few days through my website as well. eSellerate charges more than paypal, but their 10% is still much better than PocketGear, which charges 20% plus credit card and "scrubbing" fees, which makes it closer to 30% total.

Probably he just ignore it, cause buying DEXplor means reading all of the terms and info about DE contained on his website, and it says clearly that DE w o n ' t work with PalmVx :]

Zahn,

It was not my intention to imply that a Palm Vx user is an idiot  However, it is a fact that opening up for a wider customers base trough a mainstream online store like Handango, *will* inviteably give you new challenges - like handling support questions from people with very little technical knowledge, some of which *will* have purchased your software without noticing the explicit warnings that pop up during the purchase process, telling them that this piece of Pocket PC software WILL NOT WORK with their hardware.

This happens on a regular basis for me, and is a good example for when I will choose to accept a refund for their software.

My question to Dan was bascially how he handles a situation like this with his current payment setup? [Still wondering about that, Dan :P]
