I only mention boot up speed, performance in photoshop 6.01 is excellent, ram usage and scratch disk usage with windows xp. I can go on and on.<br><br>XP PRO is only NT 5.1, not even a 6.0 jump from windows 2000 NT 5.0.<br><br>Well i don't know, it's a great OS and I'm diggin it.

OS wars are useless wastes of breath if you don't have a purpose for your machine.  If you do, and your getting it, good for you.  Sounds like XP rocks in your world.  But my question is always "could we have done it better?"  Could I have saved 4-figure retail sums and gotten my computing needs met with Open Source?  Alternatives like Mac/BeOS?  It's a platform, not an end-use.  That's what users are for.<br><br>To use PocketQuake.  ;)

It just all depends on what you like. I think xp is superior but some users may not. I personally like the new fluffy look too, it kind of reminds me of X-Windows. But i do have to say that xp is way faster than me and you should go from me to xp.

In case it really matters ms says 98se is faster than me by like 10%. So in this case ideot its just that ME blows more than any other ms-os.

agreed -- it's also a matter of preference.  I love Win2K because it is a tremendous business platform.  Unprecedented.  And XP isn't going to be able to walk in off the shelves into that.  You're right, it's like NT5.1, not 6.0.  It's got some nice features, and home users will love it.  Definitely the way to go at home if you're dedicated to MS windows on your box, have lots of cash, time to spend in matainence and support at home (or re-install... is there a difference?) and you want all the good stuff of Win2K reliability (vis a vis 98SE)<br><br>All I know is I walked into Future Shop last week, and caked their P4 1.6 GHz Windows XP machine in 35 seconds flat.  Of course, it had to reboot to do it.  ;)

That's not acceptable in my environment. I can't afford to upgrade my hardware.<br><br>For complete benchmarks, Anandtech has an article on Windows XP.<br><br>Quoting benchmarks from Microsoft's site won't do much good. You actually think they want you to buy Windows 2000 now?.. It's way cheeper than Windows XP Pro right now...

Really, xp pro is only $400 and that the eqivealent of 2k server, since it has iis built in. But i didnt know 2k server wasnt even $400.
